In this video I discuss some of the music equipment and software I use to write and record music. I will get into more depth in the “Writing/Recording a Song” videos but since I am about to complete a new song and post a video, I thought I should show you a bit on how I do it.
Discussed in this video:
- Roland JV-1010 sound module
- Tascam US-428
- Jammer Pro software
- Cubase VST software
Here is the link to Jammer Pro:

Yes, sent the output from your mixer into your computer sound card while cubase is running and record. But you probably want to look into the various USB/firewire audio recording solutions. good luck

when you use it, …
when you use it, the guitar tones are MONO, that means its always going to be on the left side(left is the Mono standard) you will probably want to make the input goto left and right. on a mixer its simple because it pans the guitar/bass/whatever…

I have a Roland JV- …
I have a Roland JV-1010 here as well. You know in Cubase SX I can select Midi Device -> JV-1010 and it recognizes the different sounds on the Roland Synth. You can now chose a Midi Channel and a Sound and compose the music in Cubase and do not have to use the knobs on the soundmodule. Its really helpful!

I think Sonar is fantastic! Have you seen the tutorials by dustypuppy? If not just search his name, he uses Sonar and i have done some work with him. Thanks for checking out this somewhat boring video and good luck to you Ray and your great songs. You make Elvis alive for me!

Not sure what the …
Not sure what the issue is here. Perhaps the panning on your input (mixer) is set to one side and not up the middle? Are you coming out of a stereo effects pedal with just one guitar cord? Are there two outputs on the pedal and you’re just using one? I use both outputs on my effects unit, go into the mixer with both of those, record in mono but it’s straight up the middle in headphones. Keep trying stuff and you’ll figure it out.

Whenever i play back the recorded guitar part, i can only hear it on the left side of the headphones. I’ve set up a mono track for the guitar. How can i fix this??
July 31st, 2009 at 9:52 pm
Yeah, i think you …
Yeah, i think you really have to crank your input volume. I use a Tascam US-428 mixer/input and unless I have the masters and trim up at least 3/4, I get low volume. Good luck and keep experimenting.
