The market for laptops has become saturated with hundreds of different makes and models and it can sometimes be a minefield to decide which is the best model for you. One of the most important things to consider before making a purchase is to work out what you intend to use it for. Check out the handy guide below to help you decide what features you need from your new computer.
Student use
If you’re a student then you should ideally be on the lookout for a machine that can offer you a full range of features. Typical uses could include researching online, writing assignments, listening to music, uploading and sending photos and playing games. To make sure your computer can stand up to all these demands it would be wise to choose a model that has a large hard drive so that you’ve got plenty of room to store all of your photos and music. You should also consider the size of the model as although it might be tempting to go for a 17 inch screen, it would be far more sensible to go for a smaller and more portable model.
Business use
Whether you run your own business from home or work for a large company, a business laptop is a great benefit. You’ll need to have internet access for research purposes and keeping in touch and you’ll also need to have a software package such as Microsoft Office installed to allow you to complete work more easily. For business use it’s important that you have wireless network capability so that you can use your machine for meetings with clients and at company presentations. One of the most important things to consider is portability so it’s vital to look for one which is lightweight enough to be easily carried around. If you run a small business and the machine is going to be your main computer then you could consider looking for a model which includes a high quality LCD screen to help to reduce eye strain.
Home computers
It’s very common now for many households to have a computer as they can be very handy. If you are looking for one for the family to use then it’s very useful to shop online, search for holidays, pay bills, use internet banking and also complete homework or office work. Your machine will spend the majority of time in the one place so you can choose a larger screen for greater picture clarity and not worry about the extra weight. You will need to make sure that you have the functionality to connect to the internet and also that you invest in some basic software packages which will allow you to create household budget spreadsheets and also type up word documents for example.
Before you make an investment, you should consider what the primary use of the machine will be so that you can get the most effective model for your requirements.
