Anybody know where i can download good free music making software?

These days there’s a lot of free stuff on the internet, but really it’s difficult to find something powerful without spending money.

To make music, you’ll need a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation), some samples, and soft-synths.

I’m not too clued up on the free stuff out there, but I know of a program called Tunafish. It is indeed free, and very simple to use after you get over that small learning curve that there is with creating music in any software. Check it out here: http://www.brambos.com/

As with samples… free samples can be found in lots of places, with a simple google search. It really depends what sort of music you’re looking to create.

Soft synths are virtual synthesizers. They create many sounds and allow you to customise and tweak them to your needs. There are many of these about, free ones too. Take a look around on the plugin database here on this site: http://www.kvraudio.com/

I won’t go into too much detail on how to get started with these, as I’ll be typing until my fingers drop off from RSI. It’ll take a while to get into things, and as I say, if you’re looking for something more powerful, then you’re looking to part with a few pennies.

Good luck,

David. :)

On napster you can download and listen to it for free, but you can’t put it on to a cd for free… it’s 79p to put on cd…but to put on an i-pod or mp3 it’s free!!!

Try Audacity, thats what I use. I hear Garage Band is nice too, but only if you have a Mac. And even if you do have a Mac, Garage Band certainly is not free. Go try Audacity.

Try FL Studio. The demo is free and its practically fully functional, you just can’t save projects to work on later. you can still export to mp3 though.

if you ever decide to buy it, you can get a 10% instant discount on it with this promo link:
