Do you think this is nuts? I’m going to try to review all of the major DAWs, in other words all of the music editing software, music mixing software, music making software, recording music software, audio production software, whatever you want to call it. While each one has acquired it’s own fanbase, not many musicians would be tempted to trash an investment that can sometimes have a very long tedious learning curve to make the switch to another program, or would you? Another case in point is that the biggest, most popular programs have already reached a higher level of growth. But on the other hand,  I don’t believe that if any or all of them vanished overnight leaving only one, would it be that terrible? They all work well and you’d still be able to make great music! (assuming that you make great music:).

It’s nice to be able to compare/review each product because they all have different strenghts and weaknesses. Hopefully this will help you with your decision making as to what audio production software would work the best for you and your budget constraints (if any exist). The nice thing about some of these programs is that they have a less expensive version available that while not quite as fancy as the full fledged version, will still get the job done quite nicely.

So what about that learning curve? Don’t bury your head in the sand here. There will always be a learning curve. Like most programs available now, they are becoming more and more in tune with either Mac or Windows operating systems, which helps to lesson that fabled learning curve. Not to mention that these music editing software programs tend to borrow from the competition, hence making it easier to learn them and if you stay with the same company, but upgrade you’ve got even less of a learning curve. So you can relax it shouldn’t be that hard.

Sometime down the line you may want to switch. Like every thing else in this world nothing is static or stays the same, including recording music software programs. At some point you may want to try another product, it might have some feature in it that the program that you’re currently using is missing and you know that you just can’t live without. Personally I love technology and want every new gadget out there. If you’re anything like me I’m sure that eventually you are gonna want to try something new.

With that said I need to remind you that again nothing is static here. These music making software programs are constantly being changed and updated. Which on the one hand is great, but on the other hand can be frustrating. It’s the nature of the beast or anything electronic nowadays. Repeat after me, there will always be upgrades and improvements. Some you will love, others you will hate. Get use to it.

Next up, support. Well we all know what support can be like. Some audio production software companies do a pretty good job with support, others not so hot. I would suggest that you first check out any FAQ’s and second if they have a forum go there. Forums can oftentimes be the best place to find answers to your questions or problems. Most of these music making software companies are not set up for unlimited support. Use it wisely.

iPod Basics and Purchasing Guide

So, you are looking to purchase an iPod? Please take the time to read this brief article which will at best help you get the most out of your new iPod, and at the least, help you avoid mistakes and misconceptions. This article is written out of my personal experience with iPods.

1. What is an iPod?

An iPod is a MP4 player, not a MP3 player. Basically, the MP4 format is a proprietary format only recognized by Apple products, such as iPods and QuickTime™. In order for music to play on an iPod, it must be in MP4 format. Apple’s music download site, iTunes™, offers music only in the MP4 format. The iTunes™ software which comes with an iPod will convert MP3 music files to MP4 format, so they will play on your iPod. An iPod will not play MP3 files, neither will Windows Media Player play MP4 files. Both the Nano and Video iPod will store and display photos, but a video iPod is needed to play video files.

2. What is iTunes?

® Apple hosts the world’s largest music download site called iTunes™. As of March 2006, over 1 billion files have been downloaded for use in iPods. Pretty amazing. This site offers music files for 99 cents each, and you need not download an entire album, but can select only the music files you want and download it into your computer. The iTunes™ software in your computer is the vehicle by which files are loaded into the iPod. Simply place your iPod into its dock (which is attached via USB to your computer), start iTunes™ and your iPod is updated automatically with new music, playlists, Podcasts and so forth. I have tried other music download sites and have not found any which I like as well as iTunes™, even though they may offer music cheaper than iTunes™. A basic search will locate alternative music download sites.

There are a variety of other files available on iTunes™ called Podcasts. These are audio or video files which include news broadcasts, informational programs, comedy programs and many others. The great majority of Podcasts are free, and others are not.

3. What You Get

iPods come with the following:

iPod with battery

Earphones (called “earbuds”)

A generic pouch for the earbuds

A docking station (to transfer files and charge the iPod)

iTunes™ software CD

Instruction manual

That is all.

4. What You will Need

Every iPod user will need a case, and we strongly recommend a screen protector.

Both the iPod Nano and 5th generation (5G) Video iPod are susceptible to scratching, and the black units seem to show scratches worse than the white ones. This is true of both the iPod housing AND the screen. Nothing is worse than having your iPod blemished with unsightly scratches, especially when it is easily avoidable by using a case and screen protector. Having your unprotected iPod floating around inside your purse or in your pocket will absolutely cause your iPod to quickly accumulate scratches both on the housing and on the screen. Be warned! This is not really a defect, but just the way it is.

5. Using iPods in your Car

Most people quickly realize that it would be great to be able to have their iPod play music through their car stereo. No longer would they have to mess with CDs or tapes. How many CDs would you have to carry to have your entire music library with you in the car? You can take it all in the palm of your hand with an iPod. So, how does one play music through their car stereo? There are several options.

First, there are cables available for most car stereos which plug into the iPod and the other end of the cable plugs into a port on the back of the stereo. Removal of the stereo is usually required to accomplish this task. Also, the wire used to connect your iPod is exposed. It does, however, sound great! Some car stereos have a line input on the faceplate. In this case, all one needs to do is use an adaptive cable from the headphone jack of the iPod to the input on the stereo. In both of these scenarios, the iPod will run on its internal battery unless a car charger is used as well.

Second, (and by far the most popular) method, is to use an FM transmitter to transmit a signal from your iPod to your FM radio and play it as if it were a radio station. There are a variety of FM transmitters from several manufacturers. We recommend using a unit which is a dock and not a plug into the iPod port. The plug-in units consume power from the iPod battery and seem to produce a weak signal resulting in poor audio quality. A docking unit (such as the Griffin RoadTrip™) holds your iPod in place, charges the iPod and produces a strong signal. The RoadTrip™ also features a removable FM module which allows it to plug into your computer. You can therefore listen to FM radio through your computer without having to install software.

6. Using iPods at Home

iPods can easily play through your home stereo. One can simply use an adaptive cable which plugs into the headphone jack of the iPod and into the stereo input of your stereo. In this setup, the iPod is operating on battery power unless the iPod is also plugged into a charger.

Docking your iPod is the preferred method, and there are a variety of docking solutions available. The iPod docks into a base which charges the iPod, and an output jack on the base connects the iPod to your stereo via a cable. Some units offer remote controls for your iPod and others do not, but often these remotes are weak and have very limited range and field of reception. We have found that some television or stereo programmable remote control units can be programmed to work with certain iPod docking systems, while others work partially or not at all. It is worth trying if you have a programmable remote.

Some docking units also have a video output for use with the 5G Video iPod, which allows one to watch videos or photos stored in the iPod on a television. We have found that the picture quality is poor on large screen televisions, but ok on a smaller screen. Using a dock with S-video output will provide a far superior picture than units using an RCA connector. As of now, iPods do not support high definition.

There are speaker systems which contain their own amplifier and operate as a stand-alone unit with an iPod. These are not all created equal. Our testing has found that a high price does not always equal high quality. We have found $150 systems which in our opinion sound significantly superior to $400 units. It is best to listen to the various systems before making your selection; or if buying online, follow the recommendations of the seller IF they have tested the systems and can provide you with recommendations based on testing results.

There are alarm clock radios (such as iHome™) which allow you to go to sleep listening to your iPod and wake up to it as well. We have tested the iHome™ and others, and found iHome™ to be our unit of choice.

7. Loading Movies into Your 5G Video iPod

When the Video iPod first came out, I gave it a high ranking on the “Dumb-O-Meter.” Who wants to watch a movie on a 2.5 inch screen? However, after having used one, I have recanted my original opinion. It is now my iPod of choice. Unfortunately, iTunes™ and other MP4 download sites usually have little to offer in the way of legal movies which are formatted to play on an iPod. ITunes™ does have some short films, music videos and television shows, but not much else.

An easy solution for this is to convert your own DVDs into a format that the iPod can play. This can be accomplished by means of a software product called a DVD to iPod converter, such as Cucusoft, Lenogo and others. It is a simple process. Put a DVD in your computer, start the converter program and let it convert the movie to iPod format. Then, move the converted file into your iTunes™ video list. The next time you dock your iPod to your computer, it will load into your iPod. Some converter programs will also convert AVI, MPEG, MPG, WMV and other computer video formats for use on an iPod. This can allow you to convert your family videos and view them on your ipod. IPod movies are great for entertaining children on the road, for the business traveler stranded at an airport or for long airplane trips.

DVD converters we recommend are available here.

8. iPods and your PC

The music files for your iPod are stored in two places: in your PC in the iTunes™ program, and in your iPod. If your PC crashes and you loose your hard drive or have to reformat, you will loose EVERYTHING contained in your iTunes™ folder, including all of the songs you have purchased from iTunes™. Furthermore, iTunes™ does not offer the means to re-download songs you have purchased for free. You will have to buy them again. Neither does the iPod come with a means to load files into a computer. Fortunately, there are software programs which allow you to copy the contents of your iPod into a PC or from one iPod to another. These programs are usually titled “iPod to PC”, or something similar. If your computer crashes, you will kick yourself for not having this program to restore your music files back into your computer.

IPod to PC programs we recommend are available here.

We hope you found this article helpful.

And there exist software and non-software packages for both MAC and Linux users as well.

Users get safe, legal, and risk-free access when watching NFL/International football, soccer, hockey, baseball, golf, tennis, NBA/college basketball, NASCAR racing, wrestling, boxer, and so much more. This includes receiving access to premium, HDTV, and on-demand channels with good to excellent video quality. Whatever TV or sports issues at home is or when going away, a top watch sports online software eliminates these issues instantly. Download the software to a laptop using a laptop broadband card and watch sports from any location while at home or on the go.

There are a great number of benefits when using software to point and click your way to any sporting event imaginable. And watching a game in full screen while at work, on a vacation/trip, or when living in a college dorm, says a lot about how flexible a top watch sports online software really can be. Two features that helps enhance this entertainment more are daily sports schedules and programming sports alerts. Both will eliminate the chance of you missing a big game, even if there is a local blackout.

Netbook Structure: Most netbooks sport small LCD screens, 8.9-inches to 10-inches, versus an average of 15.4-inches for normal laptops. Netbooks generally weigh around 2.2 lbs (1 kilogram) each, far lighter than most laptops, and carry batteries that last up to 8 hours. They cost between US$199 and $799 and lot more benefits.

Here are useful tips for your first netbook:

1. Make sure you want a netbook and not a full-fledged laptop computer.

What do you want to use this netbook for? Do you want a lightweight device for easy Internet access? Or are you really looking for a device to carry around that you can edit video on, play games, or use for other applications that test the computing limits of a netbook?

Don’t buy a netbook if you’re really looking for a laptop, it would be a mistake.

To ensure longer battery life, some key components on a netbook, such as the microprocessor, are less powerful than common laptops. That’s why they’re good for surfing the Internet, sending e-mails, or doing homework.

2. Buy a netbook with an 8.9-inch screen or larger.

Tested an Eee PC with a 7-inch screen, the Surf, and found screen too small. I was not able to view an entire Web page on the cramped display. On a screen that small, you have to scroll left and right as well as up and down to see an entire Web page. Scrolling up and down is normal, but left and right was annoying.

That’s less of a problem on the slightly larger-sized screens and, in the 8.9-inch screen size, the weight and size of the netbook is nearly the same as devices with 7-inch screens.

The 10-inch screens are even better, yet add size and weight to the netbook.

3. Make sure you get a 6-cell battery for your netbook, although you may have to pay $50 more and the device will weigh more.

Most companies started out offering netbooks with 3-cell batteries as the standard, but that doesn’t offer a whole lot of run time, just 2-3 hours. A 6-cell battery doubles that, and in some devices designed around a 6-cell battery, such as Asustek Computer’s Eee PC 901, you can get up to 8 hours.

Another benefit of the larger battery is that it props up the back of the device, putting it on a slight angle that makes typing easier. Keyboards on netbooks are smaller than normal keyboards, and comfortable typing was one area I was not willing to compromise on.

4. Try out the keyboard and make sure it’s right for you.

None of the devices, I tested had a better typing pad than Intel’s ClassMate PC, which has a keyboard far smaller than the Eee PC 1000. Keys on the ClassMate PC’s keyboard are raised and there is a lot of space between them, making them easy to find by touch.

I really liked the keyboards on Acer’s Aspire One, Hewlett-Packard’s Mini 1000 and Everex’s CloudBook Max, but the best keyboard was on HP’s Mini-Note.

5. Software: See what comes preinstalled and consider trying the Linux OS.

There are two lessons on software.

First, some vendors have skimped on including software in their netbooks on the pretense that users can download a lot of free software on the Internet. That’s true, but it’s a bad excuse for not going the extra distance for customer satisfaction.

Who wants to spend time downloading when many netbook makers have added lots of software so users can play with their new netbook right away?

Second, it may be time to the give the Linux OS a try.

Most of the netbooks I tested with Linux booted up far faster than Windows XP or Windows Vista. Which reminds me, don’t buy a netbook with Vista — it’s just too slow.

There are also free Linux-based word processing programs and spreadsheets available on the Internet such as Open Office, Sun’s inexpensive StarOffice and Web-based software such as Google Apps.

Google also offers a nice package of free software, Google Pack, which includes several popular applications such as Adobe Reader, Skype, RealPlayer for music and video, Norton Security Scan and two browsers, Google’s Chrome and Firefox.

6. Price: if it costs more than $500, start looking at a regular notebook computer.

Companies have started promoting a wide range of netbooks at ever higher prices, but once you pass $500, netbooks start to compete with laptops, and a laptop will almost always give you more value for your money.

Laptop computers have far more powerful microprocessors and other components than netbooks, and sport DVD drives. BTW, there are no DVD drives on netbooks.

7. Look around at what’s available.

Many new netbooks have come out. There are a lot of look-alikes since newcomers have copied what the pioneers found to be the most popular configurations. The net effect is to put more good devices out there from a number of competitors. You may be able to pick up a nice machine for a very low price.

In any case, the 10-inch screen devices are a little bigger and more expensive than what I was looking for. Size is important to consider in terms of weight. Ten inch screens, hard disk drives (HDDs) and 6-cell batteries add a lot of extra weight to a netbook.

Several netbooks are now on sale with built-in 3G modules and mobile phone service providers are offering them with 3G (third generation telecommunications) contracts, so people can access the Internet from anywhere on their mobile phone network.

People can also buy add-on 3G or WiMax cards for any netbook.

iPod Basics and Purchasing Guide

Now that it’s a fact, there is nothing alarming about the number of Internet video/TV watchers that continues to rise. The number of home video and television watchers are still way ahead but a continue rise in Internet video and TV could get very close in the near future. Whether or not the thought of downloading a Satellite TV to PC software to watch all kinds of videos and channels has ever hit home, perhaps now is the time to consider this more seriously.

To do so will mean avoiding the duds and scams by sticking with a top software service. To watch Satellite TV on your PC will means receiving free Internet television entertainment. It needs to be simple as possible while providing legal access and a risk-free, scam-free environment when delivering on a promise made to consumers. As a result, looking over your shoulders, worrying about spyware/adware/viruses, and skepticism are eliminated. To avoid making crucial mistakes, the best way to learn how to use software to watch computer Internet TV is knowing what it can and can’t do.

So what are some of the things that are not being revealed?

Firstly, understand the Satellite TV on your computer myth. Although a top TV on PC software will provide an instant gateway to free Internet TV/Radio/Music/VOD on a PC, it doesn’t offer Satellite or Cable TV programming. At best, it provides the next best thing which is Internet TV with more television variety, savings, freedom, flexibility, and mobility when compared to Satellite and Cable Networks. Therefore, the least of your worries will be a software that decodes or descrambles paid-TV signals and channels–it simple doesn’t.

Secondly, even a top Satellite TV to PC software have flaws which is generally overlooked when hype clouds better judgment. Or when there is not enough information to make a well informed decision prior to paying the small one-time fee. When something sounds too good to be true it’s because the writer, reviewer, or seller are not revealing the flaws. Besides knowing an Internet broadband connection is needed in order for a Satellite TV on your PC software to work on a Windows or Vista desktop/laptop computer, generally speaking more understanding is needed.

Will the software work 100% of the time after downloading/installing it to ones computer?

There is a 20% (+/-) chance of failure. Why? Because of the hardware and other software already installed on the user’s computer. Remember this is very rare, as 80% (+/-) of the time it works very well. There are solutions to these issues, but they are generally left out before making a purchase. Meanwhile, there is a little secret that one can use to test out a top Satellite TV on your computer software that offers no free-trial.

Thirdly, what brings more trust to potential customers is product awareness that eliminates the feeling that something is too good to be true. This is where an unbiased customer review comes into play. This means looking elsewhere other than the merchants website. In addition, one of the few misconceptions is thinking that all merchants handle their own sales/refunds transactions. Knowing precising who handles and processes all sales/refunds is key to getting a refund quicker.

Generally speaking, many of the top and wiser Satellite TV on your computer merchants don’t want to handle this work–since they don’t have the man power or skill to do so. Therefore, most merchants usually outsourced this task to a highly reputable and secured online service such as, ClickBank, Plimus, PayPal, etc. This is more information that needs to be covered to bring more awareness. So reading a good customer review that provides the pros and cons is key to a getting the right software package and service.

What makes a great TV doesn’t mean it has to be paid for or doing anything illegal to get it. When having Satellite TV on your computer through software, it makes accessing tons of free Internet TV/Radio/Music/VOD easier and faster as oppose to doing everything yourself. Newbies get a clear path to discovering the power of the Internet with all of it free media via a computer Internet TV setup, including many perks to enhance more enjoyment and exciting entertainment.

When watching regular television channels becomes boring, sharing a TV-set with others leads into arguments, living without paid-TV means living without, and traveling near and afar creates loneliness, a top Satellite TV to PC software service can add a high number of advantages than just one.

Introduction

The Samsung F400 is a much more affordable music phone compared to previous releases from Samsung. In this review we will take a look at its design, features, and performance and give you all the information you need to know.

Design

A very important aspect is it’s 3.5mm headphone socket. Throw out your bundled cables because you don’t need them to use this handset. Although you’d think a music phone would automatically come with this feature and that it should be assumed that it was included-even the highest-end music phones forget this part.

Most slider phones are light-weight, almost as slim as a piece of paper, and break easily. However, don’t look forward to that with the F400-it’s built constructively and is very rugged. That doesn’t mean you should throw you new F400 against the wall to see how versatile it is! Although it would also make a great paperweight too!

Being most commonly a music phone, it comes with Bang & Olufsen mini-speakers integrated behind the screen. Undercover speakers… such a nice thought, right? Don’t hold your breathe! Simply slide the screen downward and you will see where they are. It does, however, come with a nice keypad that is big enough to set a high texting speed.

It comes packed with a 240×320-pixel (56mm or 2.2-inch) screen that is very clear and easy to use. However, keep indoors or the glossy plastic coating may become a problem in the sun’s rays.

Features

One impressive but not extraordinary feature is the microSD slot which allows expanded memory space for the things you normally wouldn’t be able to fit on the phone. It comes bulked with a 3-megapixel camera which produces good quality and it is even equipped with a LED flash making it top other phones in that aspect.

Don’t worry about compatibility issues with your music, the F400 supports many different audio formats, including but not limited to: MP3, unprotected AAC, WMA, and even songs purchased from services such as Napster. You can even enjoy listening to your “jams” on wireless headphones by using the built-in stereo Bluetooth, A2DP.

Enjoy the music while you can because you’ll be disappointed when trying to watch a video. Not only is it more difficult to access than your music, it seems like a full-time job just to meet the requirements of the phones capabilities with video files. It has strict file formats and you MUST obey resolution and bit rates. Don’t worry though; Samsung includes the [hardly] easy to use software that allows people to tweak their video conversion setup.

Although it’s not a nice process, few phones make this an easy task-not just Samsung.
We were, however, impressed by the 3.2Mbps HSDPA data connectivity. This allows for fairly quick web browsing. Personal preference, of course, makes us throw out the idea of the built-in browser and go straight to the free Opera Mini browser and create an enjoyable experience to web browsing with the F400.

Performance

Although it tried to compete in the music phone industry, it still lacks some important characteristics used by other phone models, such as the dedicated 3.5mm headphone sockets. Claiming to have “breathtaking sound quality” is possibly an over-statement when put to the test. Some distortion issues arose but most people would be happy with its performance.

Even though the phone is fairly easy to use, there are some tweaks that still need to be made such as, not having to stop your music to browse your music list. However, its call quality is well above average but not quite the top of its competitors.

Conclusion

Lacking things that stand out from other mobile phones make the phone not as top quality as we expected. It is, however, a good phone in the long run. Being marketed as a phenomenal music phone would be a bad idea since it then gets compared to dedicated MP3 players, in which it stands no shot.

Although a music phone, the best features seem to be its flash-equipped camera and its easy usability in regards to texting and navigation-rather than its music capabilities. If you are looking just for a music phone, we don’t recommend this phone-however; if you want usability along with music then this phone is for you.

I’m looking for software that allows me to make my own beats; I can make my own techno background, and all in all high quality songs. How much would it cost or can I download it for free?

Take a look at SonicProducer. It’s a really professional software and really cheap (29$). Check this site for more info.
