Purchasing a music production software plays a very important part in the process of becoming a music producer, especially if you are a beginner. I am going to start off by saying that before making any purchase or even before thinking which product would be the best option for you to buy, you need to start thinking about your producing style.
Your producing style depends on many things such as experience, specializations and character. In order for you to decide what your style consists of, you have to put in balance all the characteristics mentioned above.
Music production is generally an expensive hobby or business. Each piece of equipment can cost thousands of dollars. The problem is that not many people can afford this kind of money when starting their home studio. Therefore, I made a list of the absolute essential equipment you need in order to begin producing digital music. This list will not provide you with the ability to record external audio sources like vocals, but it will let you produce full-fledged MIDI productions with software synths and effects, which is great for electronic music, games, and some film projects.
(1) A Music Production Software - This is probably the most important piece of equipment to make beats.
(2) An Audio Interface - One of the most important reasons why to get a decent audio interface is their handling of a common problem with computers and music, latency.
(3) A Midi Controller - Most of today midi controllers plug to the computer via USB and are recognized automatically by most music software, requiring almost no technical knowledge to get them going.
(4) Monitors - It might seem like the least important feature for someone getting started, but this depends on how much you enjoy making music.
It is very important when you are creating your music that you do not use low quality audio files during the actually production process because this will drag down the entire composition and leave your music sounding flat and dull, so when you are using your music producing program to create beats, melodies and full complete tracks always make sure you are using industry standard.wav audio files and that they are fully stereo imaged.

Hi, I have tons of PC’s and never owned a MAC. I need a new laptop and a desktop. I have two quad cores that I use for audio production (DAW) in nuendo. I have a lot of software invested in my PC. Nothing for mac. I also want to get into video production. I know that MAC’s are unix based so this gives them a speed boost. Do they crash? Are they really that much better/faster and more stable than windows 7?
I don’t want to have to buy all new software but will if MACs are truly that much better than Windows 7 based machines. Thank you for any help from tech minded people who have used both and can give me informed answers. It’s greatly appreciated.
Here’s the real deal. 1st of all it all comes down to the audio card in question. People will argue Mac vs PC but if you’ve never used one, I’d just avoid it all together. Go with what you know, as I always say.
Having said that, Mac has a reputation for being a media beast. However I have both a mac and a pc here and the mac is just not fast enough to do the video audio work I use on client’s projects.
Also, with Mac’s you have the learning curve, the first one being the single mouse click. And of course, getting to know the OS.
Still Mac’s, with the new Intel chips and available Windows, you SHOULD consider a Mac, as they are far better crafted. Swap out the Mac OS for the Windows alternative and you’ve got a lasting computer.
